Spend the day in Huaraz (30 minutes away from the Inn)

At 3,090 meters (10,137 feet), Huaraz is the Capital of the Department of Ancash and a growing city.  Here you will find many tour agencies that will allow you to plan your trip before or after your stay with us, as well as an array of shops where you can stock up for your trekking and hiking needs.  The city also offers opportunities to learn more about the area with colorful markets, cultural events, and museums.  Here are some activities that you can plan when spending the day in Huaraz:

  • Visit The Museo Regional de Ancash
  • People watch from the beautiful Plaza de Armas
  • Enjoy the colorful display of fruits and vegetables at the public market

Visit charmin Caraz (2 hours away from the Inn)

Caraz is located at 2,256 meters (7,401 feet) and is the gateway to the famous Santa Cruz trek, as well as the starting point to Mt. Alpamayo.  Caraz is a less touristy town than bustling Huaraz with a charming plaza and with easy access to trekking to Cashapampa and Hualcayan.

Visit the site of old Yungay (1 hour 40 minutes away from the Inn)
At 2,537 meters (8,323 feet), this is where in 1970 an earthquake and rock slide buried the entire town.  From Yungay we can see Mt. Huascaran, the highest peak in Peru at 6,768 meters (22,204 feet) and the fourth highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere and South America.  From Yungay you can also continue your visit to the emeral green Llanganuco lake.
